On May 1-4,
2014, in
Lviv, the Ukrainian Maxibasketball Championship 60+ was held. Lviv is a city
that always loves and honors basketball. Lviv became the center of Ukrainian
basketball veterans gathering. Veterans’ common characteristic is their
devotion to basketball, their desire to promote basketball and play with
friends to feel alive. Organizers gave the best they could to succeed in
hosting the Maxibaketball Championship in the category over 60 years old. Hosts
provided a cultural program plus a lot of rare sight-seeings and uniqueness,
which could be found only in Lviv.
The
participating teams were placed into two preliminary groups A and B of three
teams each. The top finishers of the group stages would play in the gold medal
game. Group A: AMICO (integrated team of
Nikolaev and Donetsk players), Kyiv team
(strengthened by players from Dnepropetrovsk),
Slovak team (foreign guests competed out of the tournament). Group B: Lviv
team(in fact the national team of Ukraine M60+ competed under Lviv’s colour),
Zhytomyr team, the national team of Ukraine 65+. 
The first
tournament’s game AMICO played against Kyiv team. The first quarter passed in
equal strife, but AMICO clinched a17 : 16 lead. In the next period AMICO had a
significant advantage 20 : 9. In the second half AMICO confirmed their status
finally downing Kyiv team 75 : 59.
 In their
second game AMICO competed with Slovak team. More younger Slovak players
secured a comfortable victory 64 : 41.
 In the
final AMICO met with Lviv team, the Group B winner. In this hazardous game Lviv
claimed their Champion’s title. AMICO earned the second position at the
Ukrainian Maxibasketball Championship 60+.
